LGBTQ Community Outreach Initiative
Under the provision of the New York State Department of Health AIDS Institute, MOCHA’s LGBT Community Outreach Initiative is committed to providing community outreach and confidential support services to the LGBT Community of Color. Referring and navigating individuals to much needed services, the Community Liaison facilitates this process and is dedicated to conducting risk reduction interventions to high-risk and HIV-infected individuals. Through collaboration with other agencies and establishments frequented by the targeted population, the LGBT Community Outreach Initiative works diligently to disseminate literature regarding MOCHA programs, services, resources, HIV educational/prevention information, and other harm reduction information. Utilizing a client-centered approach designed to build trusting relationships; the LGBT Community Outreach Initiative successfully links individuals to services, facilitates the expansion of their knowledge base of HIV / STDs, assists in the stabilization of living situations, and provides support and referral for overall health, human service and employment services.
It is MOCHA's belief that with the implementation of outreach involving the individual and engaging their peer group, more people of color will receive effective intervention, referral and navigation services.
